Silverskatt påträffad under Vikingatida golvplank i Täby
I samband med en undersökning utanför Täby där man hittills hittat ett 20-tal hus och långhus från sen järnålder, har arkeologer nu hittat en nedgrävd silverskatt. Föremålen som består av bland annat 8 halsringar, 2 armringar och 12 mynthängen återfanns i en tygpåse som placerats i ett keramikkärl och sedan grävts ned under golvplankorna i vad som tolkas vara ett av de vikingatida långhusen.
Silverskatten dateras till 900-1000-talet och bland myntfynden finns ett mycket ovanligt exemplar från Rouen i Normandie i Frankrike, som enligt arkeologerna hittills endast finns beskriver två gånger i äldre källor. Varför föremålen grävts ned är oklart, men en populär teori är att detta gjorts i förebyggande syfte under sociala orostider.

?? While excavating roughly 20 longhouses from the late Iron Age, outside modern day Täby in Sweden, archaeologists have found a buried silver treasure. The treasure includes 8 necklaces, 2 bracelets and 12 coin pendants and was found in a textile pouch placed in a ceramic vessel buried under the floorboards in what is interpreted to be one of the Viking-age longhouses.
The silver treasure dates to the 10-11th century and among the coin pendants is a very unusual specimen from Rouen in Normandy in France, which according to the archaeologists has previously only be mentioned twice in older sources. Why the objects were buried remains unclear, but one popular theory is that this was done as a precaution during civil unrest.
